Apprenticeships at the Progressive Technology Group
Background
The Progressive Apprentice Academy was established in 2015 to develop talented young individuals into skilled engineers.
We currently offer a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship to 12 individuals per year, working mainly in the Formula One, Defence and Aero Space industries. Our apprenticeship scheme provides entry level students with the knowledge and training to pursue a career in engineering.
The Academy provides a platform for our apprentices to learn multi-disciplinary processes all under one roof, at our state-of-the-art facility, in Newbury, Berkshire, guided by our two full-time trainers.
This is a vital part of our continued growth and provides entry level students with the knowledge and training to pursue a career in engineering.
Three Year Programme
The first year of the apprenticeship is spent in our purpose-built training academy supported by two trainers. You will learn basic machining and hand fitting skills through a series of supervised machining tasks, in which you will manufacture a number of engineering tools. You will work on a variety of machines within the academy including:
- Centre lathes
- Vertical milling machines
- Hand Filing and Fitting
- Pillar Drills
In your first year you will also have the opportunity to experience training in other departments such as Maintenance, Material Stores, First off (Quality) and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining).
In addition, you will attend Basingstoke College of Technology one day a week. This will provide you with a thorough understanding of the materials, manufacturing equipment and processes that you will be using throughout your career.
The second and third year will see you develop your skills, continuing to work in cross functional disciplines such as CNC Machining, Quality & Inspection, and EDM resulting in you being a skilled engineer with great career prospects in the field of engineering.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will achieve a Level 2 and 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, with the opportunity to further your education and study for an HNC.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week from 8am until 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
