The Apprenticeship programme is a full-time opportunity offered by the Progressive Technology Group, in partnership with PDT. Upon successful completion of the programme, apprentices can look forward to pursuing various exciting career paths within the Progressive Technology group of businesses.

In our state-of-the-art, purpose-built, 5,000 square foot facility, our apprentices learn engineering ‘the Progressive way’, focusing on core skills and techniques within manual milling, turning, grinding, and hand finishing.

3 full-time trainers guide the programme with a mix of hands-on, practical training and classroom-based learning.

All of our apprentices spend an initial three months in an academy environment. They then take turns moving between the training facility, learning the core skills of engineering, and the factory where we operate over sixty multi-axis machines.

While training in the academy all apprentices will learn the feel of working with metal while working on a range of manual mills and lathes, alongside our multi-axis CNC machinery. We also provide offline programming training, to give our apprentices an understanding of the interaction between operator and machine, with our high-end CNC equipment. This prepares them for going into the our main factory to work alongside the rest of the Progressive workforce.

During your apprenticeship you will learn basic machining and hand fitting skills through a series of supervised machining tasks, in which you will produce a selection of metal apprentice pieces. The first year of the course gives you a rounded, hands-on grounding in every aspect of the course.

Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (3 Years):
After the successful completion of your first year, gaining a Level 2 qualification, you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 for your second and third years. You will transfer from the Academy to the main manufacturing facility, where you will continue to develop your skills working in various departments throughout the factory.

Technician Engineering Apprenticeship (4 Years):
Having completed you first year at Level 3, you will transfer to the main manufacturing facility. Here you will continue at Level 3 for your second year, developing your skills by working in various departments throughout the factory. After the successful completion of your Level 3 qualification, you will continue to develop your skills and education progressing to a Level 4 HNC qualification during years 3 & 4.

Mechanical Engineering (3 Year Course):
5 GCSE’s at Grade 5

Technician Engineering (4 Year Course):
5 GCSE’s at Grade 7 or A Levels

Successful candidates will have a passion for a career within the manufacturing sector and an interest in Formula 1 / Motorsport.

You must have an enthusiastic approach to work and the willingness to learn. The desire to become an outstanding team player is essential, and you will have a hands-on approach to work.

Candidates will also possess strong numeracy skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
