Machinist / CAM Programmer

We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinists and Programmers to join the team.

The position involves;

  • Manufacturing high end motorsport components from a range of exotic materials.
  • Use Cam programming software to produce programs for both 3 and 5 axis milling machines
  • Use simulation software to verify CAM programs are risk assed and fit for purpose
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical diagrams
  • Set and operate 3 and 5 axis milling machines
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment at all times
  • Liaising with team leaders and shop floor staff to highlight any technical issues or potential risks
  • Help drive technology and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques

The following skills and experience is required;

  • Time served machinist, preferred but not essential city and guilds in mechanical manufacturing engineering or equivalent
  • 3 and 5 axis milling experience
  • CAD/CAM experience is desirable although training can be provided
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexible approach to work load and business needs
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Use of Heidenhain and Fanuc controllers

Deburrer / Finishing Operative

Due to company growth, we are currently recruiting for Deburrers/Finishing Operatives to join our team. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong team working skills with an excellent attention to detail and experience of working to deadlines. Due to the nature of our industry, the working area will be dusty however full PPE and training will be provided.

Purpose of the role

  • Deburr, finish and polish machined components using various hand held powered tools and finishing materials.
  • Bring machined components up to a standard / specification to meet customer requirements.
  • To ensure products are finished satisfactorily and in line with customer deadlines 

Job Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Inspection Department to understand if there are any rework requirements from the previous day.
  • Liaise with the area Team Leader to understand daily work priorities and customer requirements.
  • Review drawings for each component to understand what is required on each job.
  • Liaise with team members and manager to learn the role and check anything you may be unfamiliar with
  • Using scraper, Dremel, wet and dry paper and polishing material, remove witness of machining marks and finely polish all surfaces to customer specification.
  • Use bead blasting equipment to finish some parts.
  • Occasionally required to take basic measurements of components to ensure they are to specification.
  • Where possible and only when given specific instructions to do so, repair parts with machining errors or faults.

Planning and Organising

  • Works in line with the company and customer production schedule unless directed otherwise.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and tidy working environment at all times, using 5S process to manage and control working area.
  • Plan personal weekly work schedule, reporting any resource bottlenecks or overload situations, also report any underutilisation issues during quieter periods.

Mechanical Engineer Apprenticeship

During the first part of your training as an apprentice you will be training in our on-site academy, here you will learn basic machining and hand fitting skills through a series of supervised machining tasks, in which you will manufacture of a number of engineering tools.

You will attend college one day a week which will provide you with the technical knowledge and understanding of manufacturing techniques that you will be using. This will give you a further understanding about the materials, manufacturing equipment and processes that you will be using throughout your career.

Apprentices work on a variety of machines within the academy including:

  •          Centre lathes 
  •          Vertical milling machines
  •          Surface grinders
  •          Pillar drills

In the second and third year you will undertake training on the shop floor. You will have the opportunity to complete more advanced machining tasks, involving programming and running complex CNC machining

At the end of the third year you will achieve Level 2 and 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering with the opportunity to go on and take HNC.
